Polypropylene FDY yarn, also known as polypropylene fully stretched yarn, is an important category within the polypropylene filament series. FDY is the abbreviation for the English term "fiber stretching by one step" and refers to the process of simultaneously completing the stretching step during filament spinning, causing the molecular chains of the fibers to align uniformly. This production route endows Polypropylene FDY yarn with specific physical property indicators and stable appearance characteristics. 

Process Characteristics and Physical Form

From the perspective of the production process, Polypropylene FDY yarn is melted by a screw extruder from polypropylene pellets, and then pressed into the spinning component by a metering pump. After being extruded from the spinneret, it enters the cooling duct for shaping. Unlike the conventional spinning process, the FDY production line integrates a hot roller stretching device below the spinning channel. During the initial stage of the spinning process, the primary fibers are stretched by multiple sets of hot rollers under high-speed operation, causing the macromolecular chains of the fibers to be orderly arranged along the axial direction. The stretched fibers are wound into a form, with the individual fibers remaining parallel to each other, without any network points or with very few network points, presenting structural characteristics of high orientation and high crystallinity. 

In terms of physical form, the surface of Polypropylene FDY yarn is smooth, and the uniformity of its thickness is good. Due to sufficient stretching, its breaking strength index is significantly higher than that of unstretched yarn, and the elongation rate is controlled within a reasonable range. In standard specifications, the fineness ranges from 50 denier to 600 denier, which can be adjusted according to the requirements of the final weaving. 

Material Characteristics and Performance Advantages

The material base of Polypropylene FDY yarn is isotactic polypropylene, with a density value of approximately 0.91. It falls within the category of lightweight textile raw materials. Its resistance to acid and alkali is outstanding. When exposed to acidic or alkaline media, the strength retention rate remains high. Additionally, polypropylene FDY yarn has low hygroscopicity, with the moisture regain value approaching zero. The products do not expand or deform when exposed to water, and have good dimensional stability. In terms of thermal properties, its softening point and melting point range are clearly defined, with the melting point falling within the range of 160 degrees to 170 degrees Celsius. 

In outdoor application scenarios, the UV resistance of polypropylene FDY yarn is a controllable parameter. By adding anti-aging masterbatch, the service life of the products in the light environment can be extended. 

Downstream weaving and industrial applications

Polypropylene FDY yarn is widely used in the industrial weaving field. In the fabric industry, it is used as the warp and weft yarn for safety belts, binding tapes, and flexible container bags. Due to its lightweight and high strength, the woven lifting belts produced with this fiber perform stably during handling operations. In the geotechnical field, polypropylene FDY yarn is processed by the weaving machine into geotextile base fabric, which is used as the filter layer or isolation layer in water conservancy projects. 

Copolyester FDY yarn is also an important destination for rope and cable materials. The ropes made from it are lightweight, do not sink when entering water, and are flexible to operate. They have a solid application foundation in fields such as aquaculture and ship mooring. Additionally, some industrial filter cloths and screens also use copolyester FDY yarn as raw material, as its corrosion-resistant properties enable it to adapt to liquid filtration environments.
